  • Operational Oversight: Manage our Operational Underwriter and continuously optimise underwriting processes for efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Customer & Intermediary Excellence: Oversee all underwriting touchpoints—Post Issue, Reinstatements, Pre/Post Sale Enquiries, and Medical Evidence—ensuring timely, high-quality interactions.
  • Post-Issue Leadership: Oversee daily post-issue sampling and support case assessments as needed.
  • Stakeholder Support: Provide expert support to our intermediary and internal sales teams.
  • Process Innovation: Collaborate with the Underwriting Development Team to enhance question sets and rules.
  • Strategic Influence: Partner with the Head of Underwriting to shape future underwriting philosophies, especially around medical evidence referrals.
  • Audit & Compliance: Support reinsurer relationships and contribute to internal and external audits.
  • Performance Monitoring: Track and report on operational underwriting outcomes to drive continuous improvement.

What You Bring

  • Product Knowledge: Strong understanding of Life, Critical Illness, and TPD products (Income Protection knowledge a plus).
  • Underwriting Expertise: Proven experience with current underwriting authority for Life, CI, and TPD.
  • Market Insight: Solid grasp of the UK distribution, insurance, and reinsurance landscape.
  • Communication Skills: Confident communicator with stakeholders at all levels—internal and external.
  • Adaptability: Eagerness to learn and evolve with our medical evidence strategy.
  • Industry Awareness: Up-to-date knowledge of medical and underwriting developments in the UK market.
